Abstract:
This presentation describes 3D city modelling from large point clouds and 3D geospatial database of the created models. Several major aspects of the modelling, namely data acquisition, processing, databasing, and applications form major discussions. Related issues especially indexing of 3D objects within database will be highlighted and work on the improvement of the existing indexing method also part of the presentation. The presentation also attempts to describe several 3D city modelling initiatives in major cities like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Rotterdam, and Istanbul where several lessons could be highlighted.
Bio:
Alias A. Rahman, is a 3D GIS professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru (Malaysia). He received his PhD in year 2000 from the University of Glasgow (Scotland, United Kingdom) and MSc in GIS from ITC, The Netherlands and BSc in Surveying and Mapping in 1987 from NELP (England, United Kingdom). His current professional activities focus on 3D GIS, 3D Cadasters, and 3D city modelling for several international societies such as ISPRS (International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing), FIG (Federation of International Geomatics), 3D Geoinfo, and GeoAdvances.
