Title: Cloud, Fog and Mist Computing for Time-Sensitive Applications: Resource Allocation and Scheduling Perspectives
The ongoing proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications has led to the emergence of new computing paradigms, such as fog and mist computing, to solve problems in cloud computing related to network congestion and transmission latency. The huge volume of data generated by IoT devices usually requires real-time processing, which, distant cloud resources cannot usually provide. Fog computing extends the cloud closer to the IoT layer in an attempt to reduce latency. Mist computing, a lightweight form of fog computing, extends the fog layer even closer to the IoT sensors and devices. The employment of cloud, fog and mist resources for the processing of time-sensitive applications is a challenging task. In this keynote we will highlight novel techniques to address challenges in resource allocation and scheduling of time-sensitive applications in cloud, fog and mist computing infrastructures. Additionally, we will identify and provide future research directions in the cloud, fog and mist computing research areas.
